FACS Core. FACS is a fundamental technology required in all aspects of stem cell research. FACS allows rapid and accurate characterization of stem cell populations as well as isolation of rare stem cells or differentiated cells from contaminating cell populations.

The FACS Core consists of four FACS analysis instruments located in Rooms 5340, 5220 and 5224, and one FACS sorter located in 5224. A summary of each piece of equipment is included here.

The Flow Cytometry Core staff is available for consultation on fluorochrome choice/sorting strategy for users who need help planning their cell sorting experiments. When planning a flow cytometry experiment: Confirm with which instrument configuration the fluorescent labels and their combinations will be viewed. Read the sample preparation The Flow Cytometry Core Facility was established in 1981. It then consisted of one tiny room within the tissue culture facility which housed a BD FACS II sorter. Today the Core houses seven cell sorters and seven analyzers as well as an Amnis FlowSight imaging cytometer and a Fluidigm C1. The Gladstone Flow Cytometry Core enables scientists to analyze or isolate cells based on their phenotypic or functional properties, and can be used in conjunction with other core technologies to form a robust and effective pipeline for cellular analysis. The Core is dedicated to mammalian cell sorting and analysis.

Image Flow Cytometry Fundamental Principle. Flow Cytometry. The mission of the Flow Cytometry (FACS) Core is to provide researchers at CHLA and other institutions with the ability to perform multi-parameter analysis and cell sorting on single-cell suspensions to asses cell morphology, phenotype, and function through standard and custom applications in support of biomedical research.

All core personnel are trained and certified in proper BSL-2 safety procedures. The HSCRB-HSCI Flow Cytometry Core includes the following instruments for mammalian flow cytometry and cell sorting: 15-parameter BD FACSAria II “Norman” for four-way sorting and analysis. For self-use and mid-range cell sorting.
