The CT characteristics were studied, as were the postoperative scans. Also assessed were the contributions to the diagnosis of the clinical features, plain radiographic examinations, radionuclide imaging, and angiography.

In 20 patients (50%) the Seven patients, each with a single intracerebral abscess, were studied. In 3 of these cases an avascular mass was seen, but no other angiographic findings of abscess were present. The plain skull roentgenograms of one of the patients with an avascular mass did exhibit marked bone thinning which was felt to be secondary to chronicity of a well encapsulated abscess in the inferior temporal gyrus … CASE REPORT: In this report, we present 2 cerebral abscesses from 3 institutions, which developed after coil embolization of anterior communicating artery and middle cerebral artery aneurysms.
Clinical presentation is non-specific, with many cases having no convincing inflammatory or septic symptoms. Symptoms of raised intracranial pressure, seizures and focal neurological deficits are the most common forms of presentation. Eventually, many abscesses rupture into the ventricular system, which results in a sudden and dramatic worsening of the clinical presentation and often heralds a poo…
This is a basic article for medical students and other non-radiologists. Cerebral abscesses represent focal areas of infection within brain parenchyma, usually containing pus and having a thick capsule. They typically have enhancing walls and can mimic a number of …
This case illustrates the typical appearances of a cerebral abscess, and although the diagnosis is certainly suggested on the basis of CT appearance and clinical scenario (this patient had recently had a chest infection and had been experiencing fevers for the past week), and MRI confirmed the diagnosis, and the patient went on to have a craniotomy. CT with contrast obtained 5 weeks later when the patient represented with headaches demonstrates a ring-enhancing lesion consistent with an abscess.
